Is coaching like counselling or therapy? Counselling and therapy largely tend to be focused in the past, concentrating on what has caused a problem and led you to be where you are today. The past is largely irrelevant in coaching. If you feel you need to work on resolving issues in your past then I would suggest that you consider meeting with a counsellor or therapist first to resolve these issues and then come back to coaching when you are ready to move forward. What matters in coaching is that you are in a position where you are ready to take action towards achieving what you want in life. Coaching is all about taking you from where you are, irrespective of how you got there, to where you want to be. How long would someone usually see a coach for? Coaching is always a client led process so the simple answer is as long as you want to. I would normally recommend that you consider 4 sessions to start with and see how you feel after that but the decision is yours. Some people have just 1 session and others see a coach for a period of months, you choose what feels right for you. When and where does coaching take place? Coaching can take place either face-to-face or by phone. If you live/work within a 1 hour radius of Hull then we can meet either at your home/place of work, my office or another place that is mutually convenient. The advantage of working over the phone is that it is easier to arrange sessions that suit your schedule and location, plus there is no additional travel time or costs. Having worked with clients both face-to-face and over the phone I can assure you that both are equally effective. In fact, some clients prefer the anonymity of telephone coaching, feeling able to be more honest knowing that I could pass them on the street and not recognise them. I have a flexible working schedule to try and fit in with your schedule as much as possible. I currently offer a limited number of weekend and evening sessions on a first come, first served basis, for those unable to participate in coaching during weekdays. What sort of things can we cover? Any issue that you feel is holding you back in life. Typical topics clients might arrive with include improving self-confidence, improving performance at work, overcoming procrastination and setting goals for work and personal life. If you are unsure whether coaching can help you with your stumbling block then either give me a call for a no-obligation chat (01482 874008) or send me an e-mail by clicking here.
